Beaches to explore in Cornwall
There are over 300 beaches in Cornwall for you to explore whilst holidaying at Lanyon Manor, some of the best are in close proximity of your holiday accommodation, for example the glorious beaches of Porthmeor & Carbis Bay near St. Ives and the huge stretches of golden sand at Godrevy and Portreath on the North Cornish coast.
Depending on the time of year you visit, there are festivals and events which are definitely worth a visit, if you are a keen surfer then head to Newquay in August for the Newquay’s Boardmasters – a local music and surfing festival.
During the summer the beaches are full of people soaking up the summer sun and enjoying the many sports on offer. If you fancy a bit of adrenalin fuelled fun then why not try surfing, kite surfing or windsurfing. If you prefer walking then walking along the many cliff paths taking in the wonderful views may be more your cup of tea. For those that enjoy nature and creepy crawly’s why not do a spot of rock pooling, please respect the habitat and if you find something interesting always remember to put it back in its house again carefully.
The beaches empty in winter...well there are still the surfers and kite surfers that enjoy the great outdoors in all weathers. Other’s prefer to take a brisk walk and then enjoy a hot chocolate or something stronger in a beach cafe. The Watering Hole at Perranporth has a great beach vibe and the Blue Bar at Porthtowan Beach is where all the cool surfers hang out! Both are well worth a visit.
So whatever you’re choice of holiday and if you like beaches at anytime of year then we believe you will experience it at Lanyon Manor the perfect Cornish holiday destination.
Carbis Bay is a large sheltered sandy beach suitable for families with plenty of facilities close by. The beach is protected both by it's aspect and the large tree covered cliffs - a rarity on the North Cornish Coast.
The beach is safe for swimming and is a great place to spend the day. Lifeguards patrol the beach.
At low tide you can walk from Carbis Bay to Porthkidney Sands.
Put your snorkel and mask on go snorkeling. Always be safe look up periodically to make a note of where you are in the water. Beach shop, cafe and toilets, a lost child centre and first aid post. Parking is available in beachfront car park, but this gets full quickly.
Porthmeor Beach is just below the Tate and is widely regarded as offering the best surfing conditions in St Ives. It's great safe sandy beach perfect for family groups too.
The beach is safe for swimming and is very popular with surfers. Swimmers and surfers are separated for safety so please either swim or surf in the correct flagged area. If in doubt ask a lifeguard. Lifeguards patrol the beach.
There are cliff walks or you can walk through St Ives enjoying the hustle and bustle of the summer.
Put your snorkel and mask on go snorkeling. Always be safe look up periodically to make a note of where you are in the water.
Porthmeor cafe/restaurant is an excellent cafe on the beach. The Tate St Ives is close by (the gallery even has a rack for your surfboard) this is very handy if you're planning on surfing in the morning and viewing art during the afternoon. Parking is always difficult in St Ives. It is usually possible to find a place in the large car park above the town but it is probably better and more fun to park in St Erth or Lelant and take the train into St Ives.
Portreath is a small port with a good size sandy beach and a harbour. The beach is in easy walking distance to the local shops within Portreath. There is a car park are beach shop where you can hire wetsuits and surf boards.
The beach is safe for swimming and is very popular with surfers who tend to surf by the harbour wall. If you are not an experienced surfer do not attempt it as there are rocks below the surface and you could get hurt. My tip jump in the car and surf at Godrevy.
There is a well equipped newly built surf life saving club right on the beach adding to the surfie feel!
If you enjoy walking there are plenty of great cliff walks.
When the tide is out you can go rock pooling and there are plenty of seagulls - look after your fish and chips.
Cafe, toilets, shops and a pub. This is a very popular beach in the summer and does get busy, but there is plenty of parking.
Godrevy beach is my favorite beach, it is a large safe sandy beach suitable for families. The coast line here is managed by the National trust, there is a very nice cafe called Godrevy Cafe selling hot drinks, delicious food and cakes.
The beach is safe for swimming and is very popular with surfing, kite-surfing and wind surfing. Swimmers and surfers are separated for safety so please either swim or surf in the correct flagged area. If in doubt ask a lifeguard. Lifeguards on this beach.
If you enjoy walking there is a great cliff walk that will take you all the way down to Portreath and beyond.
There is a sheltered cove that is only accessible by boat, this makes it a perfect safe place for seals to come ashore. You can see them from them cliff top, I have counted as many as 22 sunbathing on the beach.
Cafe, toilets and ice-cream van. This is a very popular beach in the summer and does get very busy, but there is plenty of parking. It is owned by the National Trust so for nonmembers there is a parking charge.
