Cornwall is a gastronomic delight and the best know restaurants have to be Rick Stein’s seafood restaurant in Padstow and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteeen in Watergate Bay. The must have menu items when enjoying yourself in Cornwall have to be the Cornish pasty, fish and chips...by the sea and for dessert a Cornish cream tea jam first then cream...that is the Cornish way.
For lunch you cannot beat a Cornish pasty so head to Philp’s in Hayle they make great traditional pasties and for vegetarians Philp’s cheese and vegetable really hits the spot. Evening dining depends on your requirements, and it doesn't matter what you are looking for Cornwall can cater for you from dining in the great outdoors, to gourmet burgers and for real food lovers (who isn’t?) delicious michelin starred restaurants.
Lets begin with the great outdoors, treat yourself to take away fish and chips with a take your own bottle of wine on the beach - beautiful views, hot fish and chips and a cool crisp white wine...perfect. For an evening out there are many fantastic restaurants in St Ives to choose from. Seagrass is child friendly with a relaxed bistro atmosphere, great service and delicious food. Porthmeor Cafe is a superb restaurant on Porthmeor beach it is best know for its breakfasts and tapas, and of course the views. During the day it has a chilled family atmosphere, in the evenings it has a touch of sophistication. If you are serious about your food and enjoy a good burger then you must have a gourmet burger at Blas Burgerworks...these are no ordinary burgers; and finally for the real foodies among you that really fancy a treat; book a table at The Black Rock it has a 3 michelin bib gourmand award (1 of 3 in cornwall) This is delicious food in a chilled out relaxed atmosphere and it is not too pricey either.
This is just a snippet of the many restaurants we have in Cornwall, there really are many, more the Victoria Inn Perranuthnoe, Mannings and Bustopher Jones Truro, and many, many more.
Seagrass is a new edition to St Ives and is located in Fish Street just off Harbour Beach, this is central St Ives – it’s a lovely stroll through the hustle and bustle of this beautiful seaside town before you reach your destination.
The restaurant has a great ambience very relaxing, smart but not too formal. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being overbearing, my wine glass when empty was topped up before even I noticed.
The food is prepared by Lee Groves semi-finalist of MasterChef The Professionals 2010 and we recommend it. However if you are a budding chef and would like to learn to cook with a MasterChef, well book to stay at Lanyon and Lee will pop round and show you some Chef top tips.
Congratulations to Untitled by Robert Wright who has gained recognition from inspectors less than eight months after opening on the site of the former Abbey Restaurant just off Chapel Street. It was one of 28 new restaurants this year across the UK to be given a Bib Gourmand – a special Michelin award recognising value for money.
Roberts motto: “real food for real people.” he continues “The award is for excellence and value for money, this is exactly what I wanted.
The Michelin Guide reads: “The chef credits Alistair Little for instilling in him the philosphy of simplicity and keeping flavour honest. A slight French edge runs through the menu, where the focus is on fish. Alternatively, you can order tapas on the ground floor.”
Tapas and drinks are served downstairs in the Untitled Lounge you do not need to make a reservation. Here you can indulge in dishes such as chorizo in red wine, octopus, tortilla with goat’s cheese or Helford oysters. Upstairs, dining is more formal: a light-filled room with views out to the harbour and the sea beyond, decked out in bold prints and eclectic objects.
